e-bay sold on Web services – E-bay are making web service interfaces available to all affiliates for 250 bucks, and PayPal are shipping a .Net SDK providing shopping cart and checkout functionality. Interesting because:

of the technology choice, and a great advertisement for the .Net development platform.
they are sprinting towards becoming a platform rather than a .com business. Ditto Amazon.
of the implicit suggestion that someone out there will know how to do it better.

e-bay not an auction business – An old article, new to me. Key quote:

'EBay is well known as the leading auction business on the Internet. But in my opinion, this classification is wrong. EBay is really in the business of promoting a powerful network... based on making people happy. EBay is therefore an enabler that allows people to make money out of their hobbies.'
