Tim Rogers in London
2004-09-27

I went to see Tim Rogers of You Am I play a show with Nick Barker at the Borderline on Saturday. It was cool - he played lots of old tracks (two from Sound As Ever, one from Hi-Fi Way), and swore prodigously. Tim didn't manage one of those Pete Townsend windmill jumps though, but I guess that's all behind him now.

For an encore, Tim and Nick abandoned all semblance of professionalism and played a song that was apparently written by a "friend", called "I like looking at naked men." Rock on.

Amazon shipments are like Christmas
2004-09-27

I no longer believe in Santa, so ordering things on Amazon, forgetting about them, then being suprised when they turn up is about all I have.

Today I got Running Money: Hedge Fund Honchos, Monster Markets and My Hunt for the Big Score, The Innovator's Solution: Creating and Sustaining Successful Growth, Joel on Software: Selected Essays and Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-free Productivity.

However, I didn't get the book I really wanted: Software Factories: Assembling Applications with Patterns, Models, Frameworks, and Tools. I've had it on pre-order for about 10 weeks, but all of a sudden it is going to be another six. A lump of coal.

White guys in the NBA?
2004-09-07

How is this for a headline: "NBA Player White" (NYTimes, reg required)?

The full headline is " N.B.A. Player White, Two Others Arrested", but I did a double take and started thinking "there has got to be more than one - Nowitzski, Matt Geiger..."
